On the point of rebooting I remembered it was time for the weekly check to make sure that VPN was still not working do then and there I tried VPN again and the flaming thing WORKED!!!!! I connect via VPN to a similarly configured lan (lan interface on the server is 192.168.0.1) and the ICS interface on my machine is also 192.168.0.1. This does work for me, but I can't get browsing of any sort--I can connect to any machine by name, but I must have a mechanism for knowing the names.
